Court in and for the Parish of Jefferson, State of Louisiana, David A. Newman of Linn County, State of Iowa. On this 30th day of January 1865, and being proved to me to be the identical person that executed and signed this dee to Conveyance acknowledged the same to be his own free act and deed. Done for the purposes therein expressed freely and voluntary.

THE NEWMAN FAMILY

Walter was the first of this family to leave Ireland. He was a Carpenter and came to East Jersy
province from Dublin Ireland on or about the last day of March 1683. He was indenture of
Apprenticeship to Stephen Warne for seven years. The full term of Apprenticeship was not required.

From Records of East Jersey Province: "Headland was granted to Walter Newman late apprentice
of Stephen Warne of Perth Amboy, Carpenter 2 July 1688."

Walter married Mary about 1687. Records of their first nine children can be found in The Parish of
St. Mary at Burlington, New Jersy. He later appears in land records in Pennsylvania. The family
moved to Cecil County, Maryland in about 1713 where records for the birth of his remaining five
children appear in the Parish of St. Stephen. Walter made his will the 17 November 1725.He left
most of his Estate to his two youngest sons. Mary married her neighbor Thomas Moore.

Listed here are the chidren of Walter and Mary. Then begins my proven Genealogy with Augusta
and his brother Thomas, while I am certain Walter is the Ancestor of Augusta and Thomas I have
not found a reliable source to confirm it. The fact that Thomas is the brother of Augusta is an
assumption on my part. Records seem to indicate that he is however I have not proven it with
reliable sources.

August NEWMAN was married to Melinda SLEDD (dau of Thomas and Sally/Sarah TINSLEY
SLEDD) on 3 Nov 1815 in Bourbon Co. KY, by A. KERN. The marriage index lists their names as
Augusta NUMAN and Belina SLEDD. The marriage license itself lists them as Agusta NUMAN
and Sally SLEDD (probably refering to Melinda's widowed mother). The marriage license is dated
31 Oct 1815. Melinda is listed as Belinda in the document also. Augusta signed his name as "Agusta
Ne (u or w)man." Melinda signed her mark.

Augusta NEWMAN (along with Sophia THOMAS) signed the marriage bond of William Augustus
THOMAS and Lorana CAMPBELL, who were married on 3 Aug 1829 in Nicholas Co. KY.
Sophia THOMAS was mother of William.

On 30 Jul 1861, Jesse NEWMAN swore that the personal property of Augusta NEWMAN, who
died intestate on 4 July 1861, does not exceed $600.

William S. NEWMAN swore on 30 Jul 1861 that he was worth $800, in real estate in White Co.
IN over and above the $300 allowance and all indebtedness.

On 30 Jul 1861, Malinda NEWMAN, widow of Augusta NEWMAN relinquished her right as
administrix and requested that Jesse NEWMAN be made administrator. She signed her mark.
Witnesses were Wm. S. NEWMAN and Johnson DOBBINS.

The estate sale of Augusta NEWMAN, held on 31 Aug 1861 included these buyers: E. J.
HAZEN/NAZEN, Johnson DOBBINS, Wm. S. NEWMAN, N. ROGERS, S. W. SEA, Wm.
RADER, John T. RADER, Adam KINMORE, J. B. STITLER, W. T. NEWMAN, A. NEARDY,

Melinda in 1864 went to Linn Co. IA to live with her son David A. NEWMAN. She died there on 6
Jul 1867 and is buried in the Dunkard Cemetery, Center Point, IA.

(1) William NEWMAN. Married 1839 in Rush County, IN to Rebecca TINSLEY. 1850 in Rush
Co. IN, 1860 in White Co. IN, 1865 in Walker Township, Hancock Co. IL, 1870 Prairie
Township, Hancock Co. IL. Death date not known. *

(2) Thomas NEWMAN. Thought to be the Thomas T. NEWMAN who married Polly Ann
TINSLEY in Rush Co. IN 1846, by Benjamin JONES (same minister as William above). *

(3) Cassandra NEWMAN. Married James SYMMONDS, location unknown. They were in
Hancock County, IL in 1850 and 1860. James born 21 Sep 1820, died 25 Aug 1902, buried Bear
Creek Township, Hancock Co. IL.

(4) Edward NEWMAN. Married Sarah Ann REYNOLDS. Lived for a time in Hendricks Co. IN.
Finally settled in Hancock Co. IL, where they died.

(5) Nelson NEWMAN. This is probably the John N. of the deeds above. Wife: Zilpha.

(6) Sarah J. NEWMAN.

(7) David Aquilla NEWMAN. Born 12 Apr 1830 in Nicholas Co.(according to biography) or
Bourbon Co. (according to pension) KY. David was married twice, first to Laura/Lucinda ENNIS
31 Mar 1853 in Linn Co. IA, who died 2 Oct 1858; second to Mahala MORRIS on 27 Feb 1861,
who died 22 Jan 1873. Marriage dates obtained from pension. David served Co. I, 20th Regiment
IA Vols. David died in Linn Co. 5 Feb 1914.

(8) Jessie NEWMAN. Married White Co. IN, Henrietta STATON 20 May 1860.

(9) Joseph NEWMAN. Married Amanda [---]. Supposedly went to Missouri and then Nebraska.

* Rebecca and Polly Anna TINSLEY were daughters of Enoch and Nancy DUNAWAY
TINSLEY. Enoch was in Fleming Co. KY in the 1820's, and then moved to Rush Co. IN. Married
ca. 1818.

THE NEWMAN FAMILY

Walter was the first of this family to leave Ireland. He was a Carpenter and came to East Jersy
province from Dublin Ireland on or about the last day of March 1683. He was indenture of
Apprenticeship to Stephen Warne for seven years. The full term of Apprenticeship was not required.

From Records of East Jersey Province: "Headland was granted to Walter Newman late apprentice
of Stephen Warne of Perth Amboy, Carpenter 2 July 1688."

Walter married Mary about 1687. Records of their first nine children can be found in The Paarish of
St. Mary at Burlington, New Jersy. He later appears in land records in Pennsylvania. The family
moved to Cecil County, Maryland in about 1713 where records for the birth of his remaining five
children appear in the Parish of St. Stephen. Walter made his will the 17 November 1725.He left
most of his Estate to his two youngest sons. Mary married her neighbor Thomas Moore.

Listed here are the chidren of Walter and Mary. Then begins my proven Genealogy with Augusta
and his brother Thomas, while I am certain Walter is the Ancestor of Augusta and Thomas I have
not found a reliable source to confirm it. The fact that Thomas is the brother of Augusta is an
assumption on my part. Records seem to indicate that he is however I have not proven it with
reliable sources.

and Sally SLEDD (probably refering to Melinda's widowed mother). The marriage license is dated
31 Oct 1815. Melinda is listed as Belinda in the document also. Augusta signed his name as "Agusta

On 30 Jul 1861, Jesse NEWMAN swore that the personal property of Augusta NEWMAN, who
died intestate on 4 July 1861, does not exceed $600.

William S. NEWMAN swore on 30 Jul 1861 that he was worth $800, in real estate in White Co.
IN over and above the $300 allowance and all indebtedness.

On 30 Jul 1861, Malinda NEWMAN, widow of Augusta NEWMAN relinquished her right as
administrix and requested that Jesse NEWMAN be made administrator. She signed her mark.
Witnesses were Wm. S. NEWMAN and Johnson DOBBINS.

The estate sale of Augusta NEWMAN, held on 31 Aug 1861 included these buyers: E. J.

Finally settled in Hancock Co. IL, where they died.
